Qatar has removed a statue depicting a headbutt attack by footballer Zinedine Zidane following an outcry by conservatives who slammed it as anti-Islam idolisation.
The five-metre sculpture depicting the France footballer attacking
Italy's Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final was put on display
on Doha's corniche on October 3.
But the statue, sculpted by Algerian-born French artist Adel Abdessemed,
appears to have offended Muslim conservatives, who saw it as a
violation of religious tenets.
It was removed on Monday, according to local newspapers.

"Congratulations for having new idols," wrote one tweeter sarcastically,
as the Arabic hashtag "Zidane's statue in Qatar" triggered huge
reaction from dismayed conservatives.
"It is sad that our youth see in this art and modernity. Our children do
not differentiate between the right and the wrong, or the haram
(prohibited) and the halal (permissible)," wrote another.
To avoid the possibility of idolisation, Islamic jurisprudence prohibits statues of human beings and animals.

U-17 World Cup: Nigeria Beat Iraq 5-0, Qualify for Round of 16
Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets put the final nail on the coffin
of Iraq, defeating the Asians 5-nil in what was seen by many as a one
sided affair at the FIFA U-17 world cup.
The golden eaglets started like a house on fire with four first half goals, Musa Mohammed, Chidiebere Nwakali and Musa Yayaha all got on the scorer sheet.
The Manu Garba led boys started from where they left off in the first half as substitute Chigozie Obasi’s goal in the 90th minute made it five for Nigeria.
Elsewhere in group F, Mexico defeated Sweden 1-0. With this results Nigeria top the group with 7 points followed by Mexico with 6 points while the Sweedes have 4 and Iraq finished with no point.
Nigeria has now qualified for the round of 16 and will be facing the second placed team in group E.
Nigeria has not lost a group-stage game at any U-17 World Cup since way back in 1993.
President Jonathan Congratulates Golden Eaglets
Meanwhile President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on their 5-0 defeat of Iraq in the on-going FIFA under-17 world cup in the United Arab Emirates.

IS DAVID MOYES RESPONSIBLE FOR MAN U CRISIS
'You have been the most fantastic experience of my life. I've been able to manage some of the greatest players in the country. Those last-minute goals, the comebacks, even the defeats, are all part of this great football club of ours. Your job now is to stand by our new manager.'
So read placards put up inside the Sir Alex Ferguson stand at Old Trafford, stirring words excerpted from the former manager's goodbye speech.
Presumably they were chosen to encourage supporters to give David Moyes' regime a chance. After nearly 27 years of having Ferguson at the helm, nobody knew how fans would react to change.
Nobody thought the handover process would be easy.

And it hasn't been. The 1-1 draw against Southampton at home on Saturday was a real disappointment. Mauricio Pochettino's side are flying high and are tough to beat, but title-contenders need to win matches like that at home.
Defeats against rivals Liverpool and Manchester City stung, but were understandable. The former was even avenged, to some extent, though the Capital One Cup victory later that month.
Losing away at West Bromwich Albion was worrying though. With the game poised at 1-1 and Robin van Persie thrown on to join Wayne Rooney up front, United simply don't lose from that position.
And yet they did, youngster Saido Berahino's strike condemning Moyes' side to defeat. How many games have we watched where Manchester United find a goal from somewhere late on, when they need it? 'Those last-minute goals, the comebacks'.
United have played eleven games this season in all competitions. They've been close to their best in perhaps two of them.

BBA winner Dillish Mathews visits Nigeria, meets with Adams Oshiomole
BBA winner Dillish Mathews visits Nigeria, meets w2013 Big Brother The Chase winner Dillish Mathews is currently in Nigeria…
Dillish arrived Nigeria earlier this week and will be attending a party being put together by fellow BBA housemate Selly today (October 19, 2013) at Sofa Lounge, Abuja.
Bad news for fans who think the Namibian hottie will hook up with her close friend Melvin Oduah as he is currently in South Africa working with the NGO, The ONE Campaign.
For those who missed out on Big Brother – The Chase action, Melvin and Dillish became quite close in the house. After the end of the 90-day reality show, their ‘love’ ended immediately as Dillish returned to her country to meet with her real man. And she seems to be missing him while on her trip in Nigeria. ‘few more days till i see my baby. miss u♥♥♥♥♥‘, she tweeted hours ago.
Dillish did however meet with one important person: reports say she and another BBA contestant Maria met with Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomole in Benin City. No details yet on the purpose of the visit…ith Adams Oshiomole
